About the RoleA supportive and forward-thinking Special Educational Needs (SEN) school in the Barking area is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Healthcare Assistant to join their multidisciplinary team. The school provides education and care for children and young people with a range of complex needs, including medical needs, physical disabilities, ASD, and learning difficulties.
As a Healthcare Assistant within the school, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils' health, wellbeing, and access to learning. This role is ideal for someone with previous healthcare experience who is passionate about working with children and improving outcomes for young people with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities- Provide medical and personal care to pupils in line with individual care plans.
- Assist with medication administration under the supervision of clinical leads.
- Support pupils with physical and mobility needs, including hoisting and positioning.
- Work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and nursing professionals to ensure pupils’ holistic needs are met.
- Monitor and record pupils’ health information accurately.
- Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
- Respond appropriately to medical situations and emergencies following school procedures.
About YouWe are looking for someone who is:
- Experienced in a healthcare, SEN, or care setting (school-based experience is beneficial but not essential).
- Confident in providing personal care and supporting pupils with complex needs.
- Able to remain calm, proactive, and compassionate in challenging situations.
- A strong communicator with excellent teamwork skills.
- Reliable, patient, and genuinely passionate about helping young people thrive.
Requirements- Experience in care, nursing, healthcare, SEN, or similar roles.
- Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training (including manual handling and medication training).
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
