Christmas Lesson Plan Ideas

Christmas is a really exciting time of year for students (and grown-ups too). There are lots of festive, fun ways for you and your students to celebrate Christmas. To help we’ve shared a few ideas below.

Art - Christmas card making

An oldie but a goodie! Christmas card making is a fun, creative way to get your students into the holiday in spirit. There are tonnes of Santa-approved designs with varying levels of difficultly. Children can cut, stick and even finger paint a merry masterpiece which they can then send to their family.

English - tell a tale

Telling a Christmas story is the number one way to get your class feeling festive. Thankfully, you won’t be short for choice as there are a whole host of Chistmasy books to read with your pupils. Well-loved, favourites include The Grinch who Stole Christmas, The Jolly Postman and the Christmasaurus.

Maths - Fun and games

Bring some Christmas joy to your maths lessons. You can celebrate Christmas in your maths lessons by using our various activities, games and Christmas numeracy challenges. Twinkl has lots of great free-to-use resources available to help make your lesson planning a little easier!

Science - biology, physics and chemistree (a pun not a typo!)

What’s better than regular slime? Christmas slime! Of course, slime creation is not the only fun science-related experiment. There are tonnes of fun things you can do with salt, skittles and even candy canes. However, we’d like to say in advance that we take no responsibility for the mess made!

Music - Sing-along

Christmas would not be complete with a carol or two! From Jingle Bells to Little Donkey and Frosty the Snowman. They are sure to get your pupils in the festive spirit and have them singing for the rest of the day (perhaps make this the last lesson of the day!).
