How to Get Involved In School's Football Week

Our MD Billy is a huge football fan (he’s still not over our EURO’s loss) and couldn’t let School’s Football week pass without getting involved. School’s football week kicks off on the 7th of February to highlight the benefits of School’s Football across England by encouraging schools to organise tournaments and take part in football-themed activities. We consulted our PE teachers and have come up with some ways you can get involved:

Tournaments.

By hosting tournaments at lunchtime, after school or during PE you can encourage students to make new friends and feel like they are a part of a team, helping them develop social skills after spending time out of school during the past two years.

Football activities.

Some other ‘back of the net’ ways you can incorporate football into the school day include having football drills as PE warm-ups, coaching sessions for pupils or freestyle football competitions/shows. This lets students that aren’t as confident playing in tournaments to get involved as well!

In the classroom.

The School’s Football week website has links to resources for Primary School activities that are sure to score with the kids. They focus on developing maths and literacy skills through football making it engaging and fun for the children.

Football in schools has so many benefits for kids:

  • Improves cognitive, social, emotional & intellectual skills

  • Enhances positive decision making

  • Improves communication skills

  • Positive impact on pupil behaviour & truancy

  • Reduces anxiety & stress

Make sure to get involved in School’s Football week to celebrate all of these benefits. Top tip: the Women’s EUROs in 2022 it’s a perfect time to celebrate girls football too!
