Teacher of Design Technology and Computing (UQT)Full-Time Outer London Pay Scale – MPS or PO1–PO2 (Teachers without QTS) Start Date: March 2026 We are seeking to appoint an
ambitious and skilled Teacher of Design Technology, with a specialism in
Resistant Materials, to join a specialist SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) provision for young people aged 11–18.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering and developing a
high-quality, practical Design Technology curriculum within a growing school environment. The successful candidate will help shape a curriculum that develops
technical confidence, creativity, independence and employability skills through engaging, hands-on learning.
The Role The successful candidate will teach across the following areas:
- KS3 Design Technology (Resistant Materials)
- KS4 Design Technology
- KS3 Computing
This role offers the opportunity to develop practical learning experiences that build
problem-solving skills, resilience and pride in craftsmanship, while also helping students explore pathways into
construction, engineering, product design and skilled trades.
The Ideal Candidate We are looking for a teacher who:
- Has strong subject knowledge in Resistant Materials
- Can deliver engaging, safe and technically rigorous practical lessons
- Has excellent workshop management and health & safety awareness
- Can prepare students for appropriate KS4 qualifications (Entry Level, Level 1, GCSE or Level 2 equivalents)
- Sees Design Technology as a subject that can build confidence, aspiration and character
Working in an SEMH Environment Experience working with young people with
SEND and SEMH needs is essential.
Staff work within a
trauma-informed and restorative approach to behaviour, recognising the importance of both academic progress and emotional development. Teachers should be able to:
- Remain calm and responsive during moments of dysregulation
- Use effective de-escalation strategies
- Apply approaches such as emotion coaching, nurture principles and zones of regulation
- Deliver learning that supports both personal development and academic achievement
