SEN Teaching Assistant
Location: Barking, London
Hours: 8:30am – 4:00pm (Term Time Only)

Hi, I’m Ava, an Education Recruitment Consultant, and I’m currently working with a friendly and inclusive school in Barking. They are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join their supportive team.
The school supports pupils with a range of special educational needs, including autism, learning difficulties and additional support needs. Staff work closely together to create a positive and structured environment where every child feels safe, valued and able to learn.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who enjoys working with children and wants to make a real difference in the classroom.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the class teacher in delivering lessons and classroom activities
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN
  • Help pupils stay engaged and focused during lessons
  • Assist with preparing classroom resources and learning materials
  • Encourage positive behaviour and support pupils’ emotional wellbeing
  • Help pupils develop their communication and social skills
  • Support pupils during break times and other activities throughout the school day
  • Assist with basic personal care if required
  • Observe and report on pupil progress to the class teacher
  • Follow school policies on safeguarding, behaviour and health & safety
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and act as a good role model
Person Specification: Experience
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally with SEN, is preferred
  • A background in education, care or support work is beneficial
Qualifications
  • Good basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Relevant qualifications are desirable but not essential
  • Willingness to undertake training where required
Knowledge & Skills
  • Basic understanding of SEN and different learning needs
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team
  • Positive and flexible approach to supporting pupils
Personal Attributes
  • Patient, caring and approachable
  • Reliable and willing to learn
  • Calm and able to support children with different needs
  • Positive attitude and good sense of humour
  • Committed to helping pupils succeed
