Create Education is recruiting on behalf of a specialist therapeutic education provider for a passionate and dedicated Therapeutic
Education Practitioner (TEP) to join their team in September.

This is a rewarding opportunity to support young people with social, emotional and educational needs, helping them to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their personal, academic and therapeutic goals. Working within a highly supportive multidisciplinary team, you will combine educational and therapeutic approaches to help pupils build resilience, confidence and independence.

About the RoleThis is a community-based role, meaning you will be supporting young people both in their homes and within the local community rather than in a traditional classroom setting. You will travel to pupils' homes and accompany them to planned educational, therapeutic and recreational activities, building positive relationships whilst encouraging engagement, independence and personal development.

Please note: Successful candidates will be required to attend a 1–2 week induction and training programme based in Barking before commencing their community placement. This comprehensive induction will equip you with the knowledge, skills and therapeutic approaches required for the role.

Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Pupil Support

• Deliver personalised educational activities tailored to each pupil's individual support plan.
• Provide one-to-one support within the home and community to promote academic, emotional and behavioural progress.
• Accompany young people to educational, therapeutic and recreational activities within the community.
• Build positive relationships that encourage confidence, responsibility and engagement.
• Use positive reinforcement and restorative approaches to support learning and behaviour.

Therapeutic & Pastoral Support

• Support pupils in managing emotions, behaviour and social challenges using therapeutic approaches.
• Act as a trusted adult, supporting pupils throughout their daily routines and community-based activities.
• Work collaboratively with therapists, teachers, families and external professionals to provide consistent support.

Planning & Monitoring

• Contribute to behaviour support plans, risk assessments and therapeutic strategies.
• Monitor pupil progress and accurately record achievements and areas for development.
• Prepare reports and contribute to review meetings where required.

Safeguarding & Wellbeing

• Promote the safety, wellbeing and rights of every pupil.
• Follow safeguarding, child protection and health & safety procedures at all times.
• Respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns in line with school policies.

Community & Therapeutic Engagement

• Accompany pupils to therapy appointments, educational visits and community activities.
• Liaise with external professionals to ensure therapeutic strategies are embedded into pupils' daily learning and development.

We Are Looking For Someone Who Has:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, SEND or additional needs.
• The ability to build strong, trusting relationships whilst maintaining clear, consistent and professional boundaries.
• Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach when supporting pupils with complex needs.
• A genuine passion for improving outcomes for vulnerable young people.

Desirable Experience
The client would particularly welcome applicants who have experience in the following areas:

• Working alongside families or carers and understanding how family dynamics can impact a young person's engagement and progress.
• Confidently balancing the needs of parents and pupils whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
• Mentoring or coaching young people, helping them to develop confidence, resilience and independence.
• Working within therapeutic, trauma-informed or restorative practice environments.
