Assistant SENDCo – PermanentLocation: Watford
Salary: Dependent on experience
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–4:30pm, 39 weeks per year
Create Education are working with a high-performing school in Watford to recruit an experienced and ambitious Assistant SENDCo to join their SEND leadership team on a permanent basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for a SEND professional looking to take the next step in their career, working closely with the SENDCo to lead, develop and coordinate high-quality SEND provision across the school.
The RoleAs Assistant SENDCo, you will:
  • Support the SENDCo in leading and developing SEND provision across the school.
  • Deputise for the SENDCo when required.
  • Coordinate provision for students with SEND, working closely with staff, parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Manage EHCP Annual Reviews, provision maps, student plans and statutory documentation.
  • Support Exam Access Arrangements, including assessment, evidence gathering and JCQ compliance.
  • Line manage and support a team of LSAs and an HLTA, including appraisals, CPD and performance management.
  • Support staff with strategies and interventions to improve outcomes for students with SEND.
  • Liaise with external agencies and contribute to referrals and consultation responses.
  • Promote inclusion and ensure students with SEND receive appropriate support and access to the curriculum.
  • Support transition for students joining or leaving the school.
  • Deliver Functional Skills in Maths and English to students in Years 10 and 11.
The Ideal CandidateWe are looking for someone who has:
  • Strong experience supporting students with SEND within an educational setting.
  • A good understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, EHCP processes and statutory requirements.
  • Knowledge of JCQ Exam Access Arrangements and experience with assessment/testing.
  • Experience of line management, staff development or leading a SEND team.
  • Excellent organisation and administration skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with teachers, parents, students and external professionals.
  • A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding and improving outcomes for young people.
  • Experience working across the four broad areas of SEND need.
Desirable: HLTA status, a degree, CPT3A/access arrangements qualification or a Level 5 Assistant SENCO qualification.
