Location: Barking, London
Contract Type: Temp/Perm
Start Date: ASAP/January 2026
Are you a dedicated, resilient, and compassionate professional with proven experience supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
We are looking for an outstanding Teaching Assistant to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our pupils.
About the Role
As an SEMH/SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:
  • Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of additional needs, including behavioural, emotional, and learning challenges.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider pastoral team to implement individualised support plans and strategies.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, helping them to develop confidence, emotional regulation skills, and positive learning habits.
  • Support learning both inside and outside the classroom, adapting resources and approaches to meet individual needs.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment where every child feels valued.
About You
We are seeking candidates who:
  • Have prior experience working in SEMH/SEN settings—this is essential.
  • Are calm, patient, and able to remain consistent in challenging situations.
  • Understand trauma-informed and relational approaches.
  • Have strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
  • Are committed to helping pupils overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
  • (Desirable) Have relevant training such as Team Teach, positive handling, Autism awareness, or safeguarding.
