About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated, patient and enthusiastic Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant (SEN TA) to join our supportive team in Waltham Forest. The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo and external professionals to support pupils with a range of additional needs, helping them to access learning and reach their full potential.
This role involves working both one-to-one and with small groups, depending on pupil needs.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, speech and language needs and SEMH
  • Support pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
  • Assist in the delivery of targeted interventions and personalised learning programmes
  • Support the implementation and review of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)
  • Promote positive behaviour, engagement and inclusion within the classroom
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCo, parents/carers and external professionals
  • Support pupils during transitions, break times and structured activities as required
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Experience working one-to-one and with small groups of children with SEN
  • A caring, calm and patient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • The ability to adapt strategies to meet individual learning and communication needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable (but not essential):
  • Experience or training in Makaton or other communication strategies
  • Previous experience in a school or educational setting
  • Relevant qualifications or SEN-related training
