About the School
We are an independent alternative provision based in North London, providing education and support for pupils aged 5-16 who require a more personalised approach to learning. Our students may have experienced barriers to mainstream education — including social, emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH), special educational needs (SEN), school anxiety, or previous non-attendance.
Our mission is to deliver high-quality, inclusive education that develops confidence, resilience, and practical life skills alongside academic achievement. Lessons are designed for small groups, with an emphasis on creativity, emotional wellbeing, and individual growth.
Role Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our dynamic and supportive team.
The successful candidate will:
  • Plan, deliver and assess engaging English lessons (including reading, writing, speaking and listening) for students across the age range (typically 11–16).
  • Adapt teaching to meet the needs of pupils with SEMH, SEN, or disrupted educational backgrounds.
  • Build positive relationships that encourage student confidence, self-esteem and engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to track progress and provide targeted support.
  • Prepare students for recognised qualifications such as GCSEs or Functional Skills in English.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop differentiated lesson plans that inspire and motivate learners.
  • Assess student progress, set targets, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a positive classroom environment and promote excellent behaviour.
  • Track and record student outcomes in line with school policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and enrichment activities.
Person Specification
Essential:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Strong subject knowledge in English, including GCSE and Functional Skills content.
  • Experience teaching students with additional needs (SEMH, SEN, or non-attenders).
  • Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing.
Desirable:
  • Experience working in alternative provision or with small group settings.
  • Familiarity with assessment for Functional Skills and GCSE English.
  • Experience supporting students with behavioural or emotional challenges.
