1:1 Teaching Assistant – Primary School
Location: SE22, East Dulwich, London
Position Type: Full-Time
Start Date: 7th September
Are you a caring, dedicated and proactive Teaching Assistant looking to make a meaningful difference to a pupil’s education and wellbeing? We are seeking an enthusiastic 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide individualised support to a pupil at a welcoming primary school in SE22, East Dulwich.
About the Role
This is a rewarding opportunity to work closely with one pupil, providing tailored academic, emotional and pastoral support throughout the school day. You will play an important role in helping the pupil engage with learning, develop confidence and make positive progress both inside and outside the classroom.
Your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support to the pupil throughout the school day.
  • Planning and preparing individualised learning activities based on the pupil’s needs, interests and targets.
  • Supporting the pupil to access and engage with lessons and classroom activities.
  • Adapting activities and resources to make learning accessible and enjoyable.
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to support the pupil’s progress and development.
  • Providing encouragement and reassurance to build the pupil’s confidence, independence and self-esteem.
  • Supporting the pupil’s social and emotional development and helping them manage challenges appropriately.
  • Supporting the pupil during transitions, break times, lunchtime and other activities where required.
  • Monitoring the pupil’s progress and providing feedback to teaching staff.
  • Helping the pupil develop greater independence and positive relationships within the school.
  • Contributing to a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment.
You will become an important and trusted member of the pupil’s support network, working collaboratively with the school to ensure they receive the consistency, encouragement and tailored support they need to thrive.
About You
The ideal candidate will:
  • Have previous experience working with children, ideally within a primary school or SEN setting.
  • Have experience providing 1:1 support to pupils or working with children who require additional support.
  • Be confident in planning and delivering engaging activities tailored to an individual pupil.
  • Be patient, compassionate and understanding.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be proactive, reliable and well organised.
  • Be able to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
  • Be committed to helping children develop academically, socially and emotionally.
  • Work effectively as part of a wider school team.
