SEMH Teaching Assistant – KS1 & KS2
Are you a compassionate and experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant with a passion for supporting children with additional needs?
We are working with a welcoming and inclusive Southwark Primary seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide both 1:1 and small group support for pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and other additional learning needs.

Your Role
  • Provide high-quality 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, and additional needs.
  • Support pupils in developing emotional regulation, confidence, resilience, and positive relationships.
  • Implement effective behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and abilities.
  • Promote engagement, independence, and inclusion within the classroom.
  • Support literacy, numeracy, communication, and social skills development where required.
  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and external agencies to implement personalised support plans.
  • Maintain a calm, consistent, and positive approach throughout the school day.
  • Support pupils during classroom learning, interventions, breaktimes, and transitions as needed.
  • Contribute to monitoring progress and maintaining accurate records.
What We're Looking For
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, or SEMH Support Worker.
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH, Autism (ASC), ADHD, and other additional needs.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour support.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, resilient, and proactive approach.
  • A genuine passion for inclusive education and helping every child succeed.
