Are you a motivated and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant looking to make a positive impact in a Year 5 classroom?
We are working with a lovely 2-form entry primary school in Peckham that is seeking a dedicated Year 5 Teaching Assistant to join their team immediately for the summer term. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced TA who is passionate about supporting children, including pupils with SEN, and helping them thrive both academically and personally.
About the Role
As a Year 5 Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher to support pupils’ learning and development. The role will involve supporting children with additional needs, leading small-group interventions, and helping to create an engaging and inclusive learning environment.
Your Responsibilities
  • Support pupils in a Year 5 class with their learning and development
  • Provide targeted SEN support to pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Lead small-group intervention sessions in literacy and numeracy
  • Assist the class teacher with lesson preparation and classroom organisation
  • Help pupils stay engaged, focused, and motivated during lessons
  • Support pupils with routines, transitions, and positive behaviour strategies
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, the SENCO, and wider school staff
What We’re Looking For
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (Grades 4–9)
  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant in a primary school
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEN is essential
  • Confidence leading small-group interventions
  • A positive, patient, and proactive approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children’s learning and well-being
