Year 1 Teaching Assistant - Westminster

  • Posted: 30-07-2025
  • Category: Teaching Assistants
  • Location: London
  • Type: Full Time / Temp
  • Salary: £89 - £105 per day
Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant who loves working in Key Stage 1?

Have you supported pupils in Year 1 and understand how to build confidence, routines, and early academic success—especially in phonics, reading, and foundational maths?

If so, this role could be a perfect match.

A well-regarded Church of England primary school in Central London is looking for a caring and capable Year 1 Teaching Assistant to join their nurturing and skilled team. You’ll play a vital role in helping children settle into more structured learning, develop key skills, and thrive in a happy and secure environment.

Why This Role Could Be Right for You:
You’ll be part of a supportive school community that values early learning, kindness, and high-quality teaching. In Year 1, no two days are the same, and you'll work alongside experienced teachers who believe in collaboration, encouragement, and joy in learning.

This could be the right place for you if:
  • You enjoy helping young learners bridge the transition from Reception to more formal learning.
  • You have experience with phonics (e.g. Read Write Inc or Little Wandle) and know how to support early reading and writing.
  • You’re passionate about helping children build independence, resilience, and a love of learning.
What You’ll Be Doing:
In this role, you’ll support children’s academic, emotional, and social development by:
  • Assisting in the delivery of daily phonics sessions and guided reading groups.
  • Supporting individuals and small groups in early literacy and numeracy activities.
  • Helping children adjust to the routines and expectations of Key Stage 1.
  • Encouraging independence and positive learning behaviours.
  • Collaborating with the class teacher to adapt learning activities and monitor progress.
  • Promoting a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
We’d Love to Hear From You If:
  • You’ve worked in a Year 1 or EYFS/KS1 setting and understand early childhood learning.
  • You’re familiar with early phonics schemes and strategies.
  • You’re warm, enthusiastic, and proactive in supporting individual needs.
  • You have strong communication skills and a nurturing approach.
  • You hold GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths, ideally grade C/4 or above.
  • You’re committed to safeguarding and professional development.
What Ofsted Says About the School (2023):
“Pupils achieve well and are proud of their learning. Staff set high expectations and support every pupil to succeed. The school’s caring culture shines through.”
